SEBAGO

Founded in 1946, the Sebago® Company was started by three New England natives and friends: Daniel J. Wellehan Sr., William Beaudoin and Joseph Cordeau. The first shoe they released was a hand-sewn penny loafer. Sebago®’s penny loafer was inspired by the popular Indian moccasin and featured the company’s patented welt construction. It was a BIG success. With a firm foundation in quality and style, the Sebago® Company started to expand quickly.

1970’s

DOCKSIDES® LAUNCH

With avid sailors running Sebago in the late 60’s, they looked to create a functional, handsewn leather boat shoe. The Docksides was launched in 1970 to meet that need, and has grown to historic status. It is still being handsewn and finished the same way but new materials and colors have evolved the Docksides to casual shoe status. A practical alternative to the canvas boat shoes of the time, Docksides® brought dramatic growth to the company.

Sebago blev grundlagt i 1946 af de tre venner Daniel J. Wellehan, Sr., William Beaudoin og Joseph Cordeau, alle tre født og opvokset i New England. Den første sko de lancerede var en håndsyet penny loafer. Sebagos penny loafer var inspireret af den populære indianske mokkasin og viste for første gang firmaets patenterede måde at sætte sålen, randen og overlæderet sammen på.

Det var en stor succes. Med stærkt udgangspunkt i kvalitet og stil ekspanderede Sebago hurtigt. I 1954 rundede de produktionen af deres sko nr. 1.000.000, og Sebagos sko blev solgt i de største amerikanske stormagasiner. Gennem 1950’erne og 1960’erne udvidede Sebago deres kollektion med nye modeller til kvinder og begyndte at eksportere til udlandet.

I 1970 lancerede Sebago deres til dato mest genkendelige sko: den ikoniske ”Dockside” sejlersko. Kendt for den håndsyede mokkasin-konstruktion, skridsikre gummisål og rustfri eyelets er Docksides stadig en ikonisk silhouette, der bæres af både mænd, kvinder og børn.
